Happy Book Club New Year!

Image result for the one and only ivan

I'm  pleased to announce the beginning of our our new Tiger Talk Book Club Year.   Since our book club starts in the spring it's a new year for us.  I'm happy to have three families in the club and we're going to have a great time!

We were slightly delayed because we were waiting for Doll Bones to come in as our first book for the club.  Unfortunately it didn't come in so I changed the book to The One and Only Ivan, by Katherine Applegate.  It's a book that caught my eye in the library and at the book fair, and it's also the Newbery Award winner for 2013.  I can't wait to talk about it with our book club.  If you have any comments as you're reading post them here!

Did you know that Ivan was a real gorilla. This book is a work of fiction, but it's based on an actual gorilla who did live in a mall in Washington state.  Sometimes a story just needs to be told.  Check out this link to learn more about the book and author. http://theoneandonlyivan.com/ivan

Schooled

I just finished reading our new book, Schooled by Gordon Korman.  I really liked it.  I like how Capricorn went from being a "geek" to being popular just by being himself.  He really didn't change who he was.  He learned a lot, but it seems to me that it was the other kids who changed, they realized that they didn't have to act a certain way, that being a good person was all that really mattered.

Next Meeting

Remember book club members that we have a meeting planned for Monday, April 21st.  We'll meet at 4:30 after Running Rascals.  I've heard that some of you have already finished the book.  You might want to review it before the meeting so it's fresh in your mind.  Remember to pick a place in the book that you thought was important or that you like that you'd like to read to or talk about with the group.
Here's a link to a book review done by a student at a different school student book review. See if you agree with his review of the book.

Hurrah Book Club is Back!!

Finally the winter sports season is over and even though we still have lots of snow on the ground I'm looking forward to spring and longer daylight hours, and hopefully soon, warmer weather.  I'm also looking forward to the start of another year of Tiger Talk Book Club.  I met with the group and we've chosen Escaping the Giant Wave by Peg Kehret.  I can't wait to get reading about Kyle's adventure about out-running a tsunami.

If you have any comments as read the book please post them here so that we can all be thinking about them. Our next meeting is tentatively set for April 21st.

RUBY HOLLER

Yeah!  We had our introductory meeting of the Tiger Talk Book Club.  Our group is small but mighty!  I have been wanting to start a book club at EES for a long time and finally we've got it going.  We are reading the book Ruby Holler by Sharon Creech.  When we meet next month we will share a favorite passage, our opinions of the story, and our thoughts and connections.  Happy reading!  If you are dying to make comments as you read feel free to leave a message on the blog!  Hope you enjoy it!

Also, be thinking of a book that we could read for next time!

Book Club News!

We've just finished reading Me & Jack by Danette Haworth.  It is about a boy who moves to a new town, gets a dog from the pound and how he has to defend the dog against insinuations that Jack, the dog, killed a neighbor's colt.

The new book that we are reading is called Road Trip, by Gary and Jim Paulsen.  Looks like a great father and son story.
